Both counselling and psychotherapy offer a safe, confidential space to talk and be heard. While they are closely related, they differ in focus and depth.
Counselling
Counselling focuses on what’s happening in your life right now. It is often short term over a couple of weeks. The purpose is to help you feel supported and better able to manage a specific situation.
Psychotherapy
I am a trainee psychotherapist and I am working towards my Certificate in Transactional Analysis.
Psychotherapy offers a space to explore deeper or longer-standing emotional patterns, including how the past experiences may be affecting you in the present. The purpose is to develop a deeper understanding of self and create meaningful, lasting change.
Outdoor Counselling and Psychotherapy
Working outdoors is an area that I am very passionate about. I believe that humans and nature are interconnected and interdependent. Being in nature can help support well-being, as well as help us to make meaning of our own situations through the symbolism and metaphors that can be found in the natural world.
I practice inTransactional Analysis.
Transactional Analysis (TA) is a psychological theory and practical framework for understanding human behavior, communication, and relationships. It was developed in the 1950s by psychiatrist Eric Berne.
At its core, TA looks at how people interact (“transactions”) and why certain communication patterns succeed or fail.
Transactional Analysis (TA) is grounded in the following core assumptions:
-
People are inherently OK, valuable, and worthy of respect.
-
People have the capacity to think, reflect, and make decisions about their lives.
-
People can decide their own destiny.
-
People can change their minds about decisions they have made. Decisions can be changed.
TA emphasizes personal responsibility, autonomy, and choice, while recognizing the influence of past experiences. Healthy psychological functioning is seen as emerging through clear, honest relationships and effective communication in the here and now. My aim is to facilitate change through awareness, co-creative space, and a transparent, genuine relationship, to support you to live with greater awareness, spontaneity, and intimacy.
Sessions are usually weekly and for 1 hour. Sessions are available online via Zoom, in-person or outdoors.
